ASTRA is a volunteer organization for young people and is sponsored by our local Altrusa club. Our members help these young people experience the satisfaction that comes from being involved in activities that will make their community a better place to live.

The students also develop their leadership potential by assuming positions of responsibility in their club.

ASTRA members began their year in August with a picnic in the park to meet exchange students and make plans for the school year. They cooked hotdogs and slid down the hillside on cardboard. Everyone had a great time!

| In October ASTRA had a Halloween Party for challenged adults at the Pampa Sheltered Workshop. They provided cookies and punch. They also played games such as bobbing for apples and a cake walk as well as dancing.
Then in December, ASTRA members assisted the Altrusa ladies with the Soup with Mrs. Claus fundraiser. They bused tables and sold hot chocolate in addition to helping where ever they were needed.

In December the ASTRA members participated in the Children's Shopping Tour with other high school clubs and adults in the community as well as Altrusa members. The shopping tour consists of a group of students taking a child who Christmas shops for his/her family. The families are screened months before the day of the shopping tour. Then, while the children are shopping for their family, someone in the group is shopping for gifts for each child without the child knowing.
ASTRA members also assisted the Salvation Army by sorting the can goods to be passed out to families for Christmas dinner.

The city of Pampa has a Christmas Light Display. Groups in the community are asked to work a night collecting donations at the end of the light display. ASTRA members worked a night collecting donations and handing candy canes to everyone.

| In February, ASTRA members had a Valentine Party for the challenged adults at the Sheltered Workshop. They provided cookies and punch as well as played games with the clients. Games included a ring toss, pin the Valentine on the Heart, and a bean bag toss. The ASTRA members furnished the music and danced with everyone. It was an awesome party!

In April, ASTRA members served brunch to style show guests and helped clear tables for Altrusa's fashion show fundraiser. Eight ASTRA members modeled garments from four different clothing stores. The male ASTRA members also helped escort ladies to their tables and helped the models step on and off the stage. Assisting with "The Greatest Show on Earth" was a fun experience for everyone.
